French Grand Prix: Johann Zarco Makes History With An Emotional Win at Le Mans

What a race, a reminder that wet-weather racing can lead to an unpredictable outcome. French fans cheered emotionally as Johann Zarco, riding for Castrol Honda LCR, delivered a breathtaking performance this weekend, clinching victory with a remarkable margin of 19.907 seconds. This win marks not only Zarco's first Grand Prix win with Honda for his 2025 season, but also a historic milestone as he becomes the first French rider to win at the Le Mans since Pierre Monneret in 1954.
With fans united in their support for the local hero. Following an eventful first lap, Zarco found himself outside the points, grappling with the heavy rain. However, employing his wet tyres to full effect, by the end of Lap 6, Zarco had meticulously worked his way into the top ten, but it was on Lap 8 that he truly showcased his skill, taking the lead and never looking back.

As the rain intermittently fell, the crowd's excitement crescendoed with each lap, culminating in a deafening roar as Zarco crossed the finish line. “It’s very special, it’s hard to believe that it can happen,” Zarco reflected after the race. “I am racing to win races and to be on the podium… When it was happening, it was very strange because of the way it happened.”
His victory not only ends a 71-year drought for French riders at their home Grand Prix but is also a major achievement for Zarco's GP racing career. “To write this line, to become a French winner at the French GP, wow, it was special,” he said. The French rider will move up one position from 7th to 6th position for the Championship Standings.
The focus shifts to Silverstone and the British Grand Prix. With the season heating up, fans eagerly await the next chapter in this thrilling narrative of speed, skill, and the enduring spirit of competition.
