Is there an argument brewing for the manual option, for the high-performance version of the BMW M2: The short answer, is no, and BMW agrees because the new 2026 BMW M2 CS will only be offered with an eight-speed automatic. It's not a surprise since BMW's CS (short for Competition Sport) is the most powerful version of the M2 model—mainly engineered for weight reduction and the best lap times. The thought makes sense, the previous M2 CS offered a manual with car journalists praising the manual variant as a "truly special” and “enjoyable sports car”—trust my words, I would love to see a six-speed option but dare I say; the “save the manual” side of me will not regret what the new BMW M2 CS has to offer.

Update on Performance: Under the hood of the new M2 CS is a upgraded 3-liter (S58) inline-six engine borrowed and detuned from the (G80/G81) M3 Competition and Touring models, delivering an impressive 523 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque—an increase of 50 ponys over the standard M2 model. This powerhouse enables the M2 CS to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and with a top speed reaching 188 mph, making the M2 CS the most powerful rear-drive M car you can buy.

Similar to its earlier model, the CS trims weight by incorporating components made from carbon fiber, including the roof, trunk lid, mirror caps, and rear diffuser. It's noted that the charming ducktail spoiler not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also serves a functional purpose. While the front design remains largely the same, modifications have been made to the air intakes to enhance airflow to the radiators.

Interior/Trim: Inside, the M2 CS is just as impressive. As per usual BMW understands the fine line between luxury and sportiness, the interior features Alcantara-trimmed M Carbon bucket seats and a flat-bottom M steering wheel, paired with carbon fiber accents. The vehicle is equipped with BMW's latest OS 8.5 infotainment system, a head-up display, and a sprawling 14.9-inch control screen that includes digital climate controls.

Wheels & Tire Package: In the name of weight saving the new M2 CS comes with forged M alloy wheel as standard. We’ve seen the base model M2 equipped with Michelin Pilot Sports 4S, so it’s safe to say that the New M2 CS will have the more high-performance tires, possibly the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track tires.

Buyers Info: Production of the 2026 BMW M2 CS is set to begin in August 2025 at BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. With a starting price of $98,600, which is $33,100 more than the base model, with cost more than likely correlated with our current tariffs in the United States. One last comment, shout out to buyers saving the manuals, at least we still have the base M2 with a six-speed; can't say the same for based model Porsche’s at the moment.
